Carolyn Crichton’s law practice includes over thirty years of general and commercial litigation and appellate work in both the state and federal courts. Ms. Crichton has successfully litigated a wide range of cases including commercial disputes, creditors rights, probate, and civil rights matters in state and federal courts. In addition, Ms. Crichton served as special legal counsel to Orange County, Florida for code enforcement, foreclosures and related litigation from May, 1999 until December 2001.
The client’s risk of exposure, both from a legal and public relations perspective is a vital factor considered by Ms. Crichton in fashioning a strategic plan and case resolution in each specific case.
Litigation cases are marked by various methods of resolution. Ms. Crichton successfully worked on cases resolved without the necessity of litigation, where, through negotiation, she achieved a settlement of the dispute and economic management of the cost to the client. Ms. Crichton has filed or defended cases that were successfully resolved by mediation. In the event that settlement is not forthcoming, Ms. Crichton has successfully litigated cases through trial and appeal. Ms. Crichton’s reported cases include Stvartak v. Eastman Kodak Co. 144 F.3d 54 (11th Cir. 1998).
Ms. Crichton’s law practice also includes representation of corporate and partnership entities involved in the development, leasing, and management of real property. She is frequently involved in negotiations on behalf of her clients. She has appeared before various government regulatory boards at the city and county levels on behalf of her clients.
Ms. Crichton’s litigation experience enriches her transactional work with the knowledge gained from working through and resolving legal disputes between parties. She understands that a well-drafted and thought-out contract is the first line of defense for her clients.
Ms. Crichton is “AV” rated by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest available rating for legal ability and ethics. Ms. Crichton focuses her continuing legal education on litigation and negotiation skills, real property law, and creditors rights. Ms. Crichton is admitted to and practices in Florida and Colorado
Ms. Crichton has a long history of participation in professional organizations devoted to promoting professionalism and protecting the dignity of the individual within the practice of law. Ms. Crichton has been a member of the Seminole County Inn of Court for 30 years, including service as past president and over 20 years of continuing service on the Inn Board of Directors. The Seminole Inn of Court is a professional society of lawyers whose mission is to promote civility and professional practice within the legal profession. Ms. Crichton has been an active member of the Orange County Bar Association for 30 years, serving most of that time as part of the pro bono Will project. Ms. Crichton is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Central Florida, a forum to bring together Catholic lawyers and encourage elevating the dignity of each person that legal professionals encounter in their professional practice.
